Hi,

I’m currently working as an assistant product manager / marketing assistant for a sub-contractor for a very large cosmetics company. This is my first job from university and have almost been in this role for 2 years.
I have been responsible for a lot of new Product Launches, redesigns and changes, from the initial design stages right up until product launch. I’m not directly involved with marketing the product, more with development, specs, timelines, documentation, raw materials, dealing with suppliers and other departments etc.
I feel sufficient and competent in my role.
I now feel that I have almost come as far as I can in this role, and was wondering if the next step was to apply for a role as Product manager elsewhere?
I enjoy working where I am, but am terrified of applying for new jobs or moving away, but am also very excited and feel like it’s time to prgress my career.
Am I ready to to step up to product manager, will potential other employers also think so?

You might be – it really depends on the company that you apply to – but I think a better option to make SURE you are ready is to get marketing experience – and you could ask to be more involved at the job you have now – so you can get more knowledge and they can pay you for it – and a bonus…IF you do well, you might be able to get a promotion when a spot is available…good luck
